SUMMARY

The public relations coordinator will conduct public relations campaigns directed toward trade media, including writing press releases, identifying editorial opportunities, creating and pitching story ideas, and developing relationships with editors and producers.  He or she will also work with the company's PR agency to produce campaigns in support of the company's philanthropic endeavors.  The coordinator will also produce newsletters to internal and external audiences, as well as assist in writing and editing technical collateral.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Media Relations

  • Examine editorial calendars of trade publications to identify media opportunities.
  • Develop story ideas.
  • Pitch stories to editors and producers.
  • Maintain media list.
  • Write press releases.
  • Develop and maintain media kit.
  • Assist marketing vice president and communications in directing media events, including press conferences and interviews.

Agency Management

  • Assist marketing communications manager in liaising with PR agency.
  • Analyze out-of-pocket expenses.
  • Adhere to budget and maintain financial records.
  • Establish and enforce agency's deliverables and deadlines.

Customer Newsletter

  • Connect with all JM Eagle departments to gain company news that will be of interest to customers.
  • Write and edit newsletter.
  • Circulate drafts for internal review.
  • Coordinate with proper department to ensure up-to-date mailing list and oversee distribution.

Internal Newsletter

  • Write and edit quarterly newsletter, gathering content through coordinating with department heads, interviewing subjects and investigating stories.
  • Circulate draft for approval.
  • Adhere to budget and maintain financial records.
  • Maintain record of all of JM Eagle's print advertisements, press releases, editorials and public acknowledgements.

Literature

  • Assist marketing communications manager and coordinator in identifying needs for corporate and product literature and execute their writing and production.

 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Superior writing and communications skills.  Bachelor's degree in journalism, communications, English or public relations.  Experience in writing press releases, feature stories and marketing copy with a strong element of technicality.  Agency plus newspaper or magazine experience preferred.  Knowledge of building products helpful.
