SUMMARY

 

Assist company with existing and new legal matters handled internally or supporting outside counsel externally handling same. Proactively update or create new company forms, policies and contracts. 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

1.                 Support the Legal Department in all operations, including handling incoming legal mail and processing legal invoices.

2.                 Gather facts and identify/prepare documents needed for interrogatories, requests for admissions, requests for document productions, motions and briefs.

3.                 Assist staff attorney and/or outside counsel with updating company policies and forms.

4.                 Assist staff attorney with revisions to contracts and bid renewals.

5.                 Identify product specimens and docket intellectual property portfolio assets to ensure that same are timely renewed.

6.                 Communicate with counsel re: case developments in order to update litigation log and litigation reserves data needed by other company departments periodically.

7.                 Review new product liability complaints to identify appropriate panel counsel to handle same.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor degree (B.A.) or equivalent from four-year college or technical school preferred and 5-7 years of related experience and/or training. CA Business and Professions Code section 6450.c. also requires a completion certificate from an ABA-approved (or other agency-approved) paralegal program, or B.A. /H.S. diploma plus attorney’s declaration confirming 1-3 years of supervised work experience equivalent to a paralegal program completion certificate. The paralegal must keep the CA paralegal certification current/active by completing mandatory continuing legal education credits as required by CA Business and Professions Code section 6450.d.

 

COMPUTER SKILLS

Possess intermediate knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, interpret and summarize documents such as legal contracts, policies, pleadings and correspondence. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively with inhouse/outside attorneys, vendors, experts, company employees, and court staff.

 

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply paralegal training/experience to assist staff attorney with a variety of legal issues in different corporate practice areas arising in various federal, state and administrative agency jurisdictions. Ability to accurately revise company’s corporate policies, contracts and forms under attorney’s direction.
